Flag Football Grows at Forest Lake With New Equipment
Football is a popular sport in Wantagh and with support from the NFL, students at Forest Lake Elementary School will have more chances to play flag football.
Physical education teacher Christine Moran applied for equipment through the NFL’s Flag In-School program, and Forest Lake received more than a dozen footballs as well as bright green and yellow flag belts. Ms. Moran said that lines will be painted on a back field to create an area to play flag football during recess and physical education classes.
She said she expects to add a flag football unit in her classes so students can learn the rules and expectations of the game. Players stop an opponent in possession of the ball by pulling off a flag attached to a belt instead of tackling them.
“Having this new equipment will give our students more options for recess,” she said. “This is a great way for them to play a sport they love and it’s safe.”
