Second Graders Explore Wantagh Public Library with Stories, Scavenger Hunt, and New Library Cards
Last week, Ms. Sottnik’s second-grade class enjoyed a fun field trip to the Wantagh Public Library on a picture-perfect sunny day. Upon arrival, students listened to a special reading of The Midnight Library by Ms. Jen, one of the library’s friendly librarians. Afterward, the students eagerly asked questions about how the library operates.
The students received a brief history of the library, a photo was passed around showing that the current children’s reading area once served as a space for adult readers.
Before embarking on a fun scavenger hunt, the students learned the difference between fiction and nonfiction books and how to locate them within the library. Grouped into pairs and trios, the children followed clues, leading them on a quest to discover hidden literary treasures.
To wrap up their visit, each student was thrilled to receive their very first library card before heading back to school.
