Third Graders Explore Wantagh Public Library with Stories, Scavenger Hunt, and New Library Cards
As a part of their literary unit, third grade students from Ms. Sottnik’s class took a short walk from school to the Wantagh Public Library last week on a perfect sunny day last week. Students were treated with a little history lesson of the library that included a photo that was passed around to each student showing that the current children’s reading area was once a reading area for grown-ups.
Students were treated to a reading of The Midnight Library by Wantagh Public Library’s Librarian, Ms. Jen, before students began asking questions about how the library works.
Just before the scavenger hunt began, a brief lesson taught students the difference between fiction and non-fiction books, followed by how to find books throughout the library.
Students were grouped into pairs and trios before setting off on a fun scavenger hunt to find their literary treasure after successfully answering clues leading them to the hiding book. Before leaving, each student recieved their first libary card.
