Parent Elementary Science Night Explores New Shifts in Instruction
During the Elementary Science Night that took place at Forest Lake Elementary School, parents explored the recent shifts in standards and instruction in science. The classrooms and STEAM labs work together to ensure that the children experience science through discoveries and investigations. Wonderings and curiosities are cultivated through instruction that focuses on studying phenomena and making meaning of the world. Through open ended questioning and providing time for children to think and respond, rich scientific thinking is encouraged.
Elementary parents had the opportunity to engage in science activities similar to what their children are experiencing in the classroom. Explorations of Forces & Motion, Matter, Energy and Life Science activities that mirror our elementary units of study were demonstrated during the evening.
The evening ended with a wonderful discussion about ways that we can continue to bridge the school/home connection and bring scientific exploration into family activities.
